Learn how to apply artificial intelligence to real–world geosynthetics challenges at an unmissable short course at the 13th International Conference on Geosynthetics (13ICG).
Organized by the IGS Young Members Committee (YMC), the daylong event led by Dr. Krishna Kumar, of the University of Texas – Austin, will introduce attendees to Machine Learning & Artificial Intelligence in geotechnical engineering scenarios, present case studies, and discuss future trends and challenges.
Suitable for beginners, the course will introduce industry-standard tools such as Python, PyTorch, Scikit-Learn, SHAP, Pyro and HuggingFace, and give participants a chance to try coding, which they can apply in the field.
IGS YMC chair, Viviana Mangraviti said: “The YMC had the pleasure of organizing this course, thanks to the efforts of past chair Dawie Marx, and was chosen by the desire to bring an innovative theme, such as AI applied to geotechnics, to the international conference in Montreal. Thanks to the collaboration of the 13ICG organizing committee, we were able to obtain a discounted price for Young Members. All are welcome to participate in what will be a very interesting session.”
The Machine Learning & Artificial Intelligence course is just one of five offered at the 13th ICG, in-person from 8am-5pm on Sunday, September 13. You can alternatively register for:
Designing geosynthetic barrier systems for PFAS containment and long-term mine tailing storage – Drs. Kerry Rowe and Fady Abdelaal. (Intermediate level)
Sustainability and life cycle assessment of geosynthetics and geosystems – Drs. Mina Lee and Dipanjan Basu. (Suitable for all)
Geosynthetics in roadway design – Drs. Jorge Zornberg and Erol Tutumluer. (Intermediate level)
Geosynthetic-reinforced pile-supported embankments – Dr. Suzanne van Eekelen. (Suitable for all)
Each course is $250 and open to all, with the AI course just $50 for IGS Young Members. IGS Young Members are those aged 36 and under. To claim the YM discount code, email general@13icg-montreal.org.
Course fees include lunch, refreshments, and entry to the evening reception only, not the full conference.
The IGC takes place every four years, this time at the Palais des Congrès (Montreal Convention Centre) in Montreal, Canada from September 13-17. Organized by IGS North America, a packed program of presentations, talks, workshops and networking events will explore the theme ‘Legacy, Evolution & Revolution in Geosynthetics‘.
Register for 13IGC here, and visit the dedicated conference website to access the full program.
