IGIC 2026 Heads to Riyadh: Engineering the Ground Beneath MENA’s Mega Projects

The 3rd Annual International Geotechnical Innovation Conference (IGIC 2026) will bring the international geotechnical community together in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, from October 14–15, 2026, at the Fairmont Riyadh.

Under the theme “Engineering the Ground Beneath MENA’s Mega Projects,” IGIC 2026 will focus on the geotechnical challenges, technologies, and engineering solutions supporting some of the most ambitious infrastructure, urban development, mining, and giga-projects underway across Saudi Arabia and the wider Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.

The conference is designed to connect project owners, geotechnical contractors, consultants, engineers, researchers, technology providers, machinery and equipment suppliers, government organizations, and academia, creating a platform for technical knowledge exchange alongside practical discussion of project delivery.

Why IGIC 2026 Matters

Infrastructure development across the MENA region is taking place on an extraordinary scale, but many projects must contend with demanding subsurface conditions.

These include hard and fractured rock, karst formations, sabkha and weak soils, high and variable groundwater pressures, geohazards, and extreme climatic conditions. At the same time, projects are being delivered against increasingly ambitious schedules and performance requirements.

IGIC 2026 will examine how geotechnical engineering can help bridge the gap between ambitious design and the realities encountered below ground.

Discussions will consider challenges ranging from tunneling through complex geological conditions and stabilizing difficult ground to managing geohazards, constructing resilient foundations, improving soils, and applying new digital technologies to better understand and monitor ground behavior.

A key objective of the conference is to support the delivery of MENA’s mega and giga-projects by connecting engineering design with practical on-site execution.

Conference Themes

The 2026 technical program will explore a broad range of subjects affecting modern geotechnical engineering and major infrastructure delivery.
